I am Patrice Magee.
I created and author the blog “Discovering Pockets“, which provides a look into my life with regards to my mental health journey.
I am currently a Program Manager and Consultant in the staffing industry for a large manufacturing client. During my career I have accomplished several things, of which I am proud. I became the youngest regional manager at the first company of my career, received several promotions within a two-year period, and have recently been selected as a mentor to my peers in my current role. I value leadership through serving others and leading by example. I believe my formal education at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (more affectionately known as A&T), where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, and Liberty University, where I earned my MBA, has contributed to my success. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Strategic Leadership as I believe this to be integral to my continued success, both professionally and personally.
In my free time, I enjoy my passion for singing as a member of the praise team at church. I also enjoy sewing, attending live music events, watching documentaries to learn little known fun facts, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. However, my greatest passion is advocating for the mental health community. This is primarily due to my own diagnosis of anxiety disorder with panic attacks and major depressive disorder. My life goal is to shed light on the facts, nullify the myths, increase awareness, change state and federal laws, increase funding, and eradicate the stigmatism of mental illness. I am currently involved with several mental health organizations and speak at multiple mental health organizations and events. I am also working on other projects to achieve these goals. It is my hope that the conversation surrounding mental illness will change and that I am a part of making a difference!
